30th Annual Turkey Tournament
November 19 – 21, 2021
Wow . . . thirty years! That’s a long time…. year in and year out. It doesn’t feel that long . . . mostly it has been a lot of fun getting to know tennis players of all ages and levels, young and old, to include adults, juniors, families and collegiate players. There have been many changes with tennis over the years but what has not changed is the essence of the Turkey Tournament. The core belief of the tourney is a simple one . . . people play tennis for the love of the game and to play with people they enjoy whether it’s friends, family or “new” friends from team tennis or club leagues. I hear it all the time, “The Turkey Tournament is so much fun!” and I love this.
We are very much looking forward to celebrating this very special 30th anniversary of running and hosting the “Turkey Tournament”. The tourney has transformed itself from a small “holiday” members only tournament into what is now a large tournament with approximately 350+ entries with over 30 events to include men’s and women’s singles, men’s & women’s doubles plus mixed doubles for all levels 2.5 through open divisions.
Thirty years later, Green Tree’s “Turkey Tourney” continues to stand out as engagingly unique and one of the cities most enjoyable and popular tournaments. Turkeys and cornish hens are given out as first and second place prizes. The tournament is known for its competitive play and most importantly, the all important Turkey shirt.
This year, every player will receive a “30th anniversary commemorative package” which will include a specially designed 30th anniversary Turkey Tourney shirt and coffee mug. Long sleeve shirts are available and I would encourage you to order one this year.
The “Turkey Tournament” has always been a tournament for San Antonio . It is for all levels of players to include adults and juniors. It is not sanctioned and therefore is not to be played for a “ranking”. Rather the tournament is played as a celebration of the competitive spirit and the love players have for the game of tennis. Local teaching professionals, San Antonio High School coaches, collegiate players and the city’s top juniors participate in the tourney.
There is no better life long sport than tennis. I am so grateful to have played recreational and competitive tennis for all these many years and to have been involved in so many aspects of the great game of tennis. Thank you to all of you for the wonderful support you have given to this very unique and special tournament.
