34th Annual Turkey Tournament

It’s that time of year again! How quickly a year has passed by!

We are running the 34th Annual Green Tree TURKEY TOURNEY Nov. 21-23. It is always the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving. The tourney attracts all ages and levels and includes juniors, adults, families and collegiate players. It is the PERFECT time for winning players to take home a turkey or cornish hens!

There have been many changes in tennis over the years but what has not changed is the essence of the Turkey Tournament. The core belief of the tourney is a simple one . . . people play tennis for the love of the game and to play with people they enjoy whether it’s friends or family. I hear it all the time, “The Turkey Tournament is so much fun” and I absolutely love this.

After all these many years of running this event, Green Tree’s “Turkey Tourney” continues to stand out as engagingly unique and one of the cities most enjoyable and popular tournaments. Turkeys and cornish hens are given out as first and second place prizes. The tournament is known for its competitive play and most importantly, the all important Turkey shirt.

Every player will receive the ever popular “Turkey T-shirt” with their entry. The long sleeve shirt is popular and may be ordered for an additional charge.

The “Turkey Tournament” has always been a tournament for San Antonio. It is not sanctioned and therefore is not to be played for a “ranking”. Rather the tournament is played as a celebration of the competitive spirit and the love players have for the game of tennis.

Tournament Information & Draws

ENTRY FEES:

Singles: $48 per person
Doubles: $46 per person
(No refunds if requested after the Nov. 9th entry deadline)

ENTRY DEADLINE:

ENTRY DEADLINE EXTENDED: Monday, Nov. 10th at 11:59 pm

ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED ONLINE ONLY

(Note: There is a $3 non-refundable registration processing fee)
Mastercard/Visa/Discover/American Express accepted.

STARTING TIME:

Play will begin Friday, November 21st at 6 pm.

MATCHES:

ALL “Turkey” Tourney matches are to be played best two out of three sets. Regular scoring will be used with a 3rd set “Super Tiebreaker” played to ten points winning by two points. Single elimination draw.

PRIZES:

Turkeys will be awarded to 1st place finishers and cornish hens to second place finishers in all divisions.

SPECIAL NOTES:

Draws will be posted no later than Wed. Nov. 19 at 9 am at  www.greentreetennis.com.

Players are responsible for getting match times.

A 15 minute grace period applies for first rounds only. Players may sign up for one singles, one doubles and one mixed doubles event. In singles and doubles, players are asked to enter at the same level of play. If you are signing up for 3.5 singles, you would sign up for 3.5 doubles. When signing up for mixed doubles, please note that there may not be more than 1.0 rating difference between the team partners.

NOTES:

• • For mixed doubles, there can be no more than 1.0 difference between partners.
  • Players may enter three adult events: one singles, one doubles in the same division plus a mixed doubles. Players are requested to enter all events at same rating.
  • If less than four entries in event, players will be moved to the next level.

RATINGS:

FOR ADULTS 18 & older

Adult players that have a CURRENT USTA YEAR RATING, are expected to play at this rating or above.

Adult players, that have a current USTA & UTR rating are to use their current USTA rating.

Adult players, that have only a UTR rating ( and do not have a USTA rating), are to sign up for the level they believe they are.

FOR JUNIORS 13 years & older playing ADULT DIVISION(s) that do NOT have a UTR rating:

VARSITY High School players for NISD, NEISD and Boerne school districts may enter 4.0 level adult divisions and above unless player and/or coach believe player is a higher level.

JUNIOR VARSITY High School players for NISD, NEISD and Boerne school districts playing position 1,2, or 3 may enter 3.5 level adult division(s); JV high school players playing position 4,5 or 6 may enter 3.0 adult division(s). Other school district players and/or coaches should contact Tennis Director Courtney Mayer for rating level information.

FOR JUNIORS 13 years & older playing ADULT DIVISION(s) that DO NOT have a UTR rating and DO NOT play on a SCHOOL TEAM are to sign up for the level they believe they are. Juniors that do not know what level to sign up for should contact Tennis Director Courtney Mayer for rating information.
