2025 Tournament Results

Wow! What a wonderful weekend of tennis we had! Another great turnout with 370 entries. We ran close to 200 matches this weekend with 22 draws to include singles, doubles and mixed at all levels. We used nine cases of Pro-Penn balls which is 216 cans and ran twenty two draws to include singles, doubles and mixed at all levels. Most importantly we handed out all the MEAT . . . 36 turkeys and 36 packages of cornish hens.

We had great weather other than a “speed bump” on Sunday with some rain in the morning. A special thanks to our great GT staff, Brad Millwater and Paul Kang, along with some of our members and some of you, who got the courts dry pretty quickly. We have two gas blowers and 4 squeegees so I felt certain we could get the courts dry quickly which is what happened!

Our head pro, Dave Briddle, is fantastic on court as a very accomplished teaching professional and is also fantastic at running the tournament desk at GT. On Sunday, we posted info on the GT facebook page and all of you were great about coming out to the club so we could get matches on. It was a beautiful evenings . . . the matches were hard fought. Lots of 3rd set ten points . . . terrific competing by all. A special thank you to Nancy Almaraz who runs the tournament matches at Blossom and does a wonderful job. A LOT of matches are played and she makes it look easy. She is so easy to work with.

We had a number of draws where either the #1 or #2 seed advanced to the finals and other draws where both seeds advanced to the finals. There were lots of spectators at Green Tree Sunday evening and all enjoyed the matches. So many hard fought matches with 3rd set ten point determining the winner.

The “Turkey” Tournament is about playing for the “love of the game”! What goes along with this is enjoying your time on court. Granted, it is easier to enjoy our time on court when we are playing good and winning but I think important to always enjoy competing. There is a lot of chatter about rankings, ratings etc. and this is certainly part of the competing. Having said that, we play because we LOVE tennis and it really is that simple.

Lastly, thank you for embracing the “Turkey” Tournament year in and year out. We love running it and it is so nice to have all of you in it. My son, Matthew, is a graphic designer and does all our graphics and is the master of the “Turkey Tourney” shirt. He hit a homerun this year. Everyone has told me how much they LOVE it.

Have an absolutely WONDERFUL & BLESSED Thanksgiving and holiday season.

Courtney & all the GT Staff
